71% of American Muslim voters intend to vote for Joe Biden

A total of 71 percent of Muslims in America will be voting for Democratic nominee Joe Biden in the upcoming US elections.

A survey conducted by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, revealed that 89 percent of the registered Muslim voters in the US say they plan to vote on November 3, while 5 percent are still undecided.

CAIR Director of Government Affairs Robert S. McCaw said that the survey shows that more registered Muslim voters intend to vote in this presidential election than in 2016.

In the poll, 65 percent believe that the Democrats are most concerned about protecting religious freedoms, and 45 percent also said they found the Democratic Party to be generally friendly towards Muslims.

Fatima Salman, 43, a social worker and a Muslim American from Detroit, Michigan told 'Aljazeera' that she will definitely be voting for Biden.“I have three children and I worry about their future if Trump gets re-elected. It’s a matter of our own existence and the future of this country as a whole,” she said.

However, Republican Donald Trump's popularity has also increased among Muslims. The poll results showed that Trump's popularity among Muslims has increased to 19 percent from 17 percent.

Poll results also reveal that Muslim voters who identify with the Democratic Party decreased from 78 percent to 66 percent.

There is an estimate of 3.45 million Muslims in the US which is only about one percent of the total population. However, their vote can prove to be impactful due to their concentration in battleground states, such as Michigan, Florida, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.
