Karachi: Sindh police have arrested Capt (R) Safdar from his hotel in Karachi. The arrest is reported to be in a case registered against him for chanting political slogans in the vicinity of the Mazar-e-Quaid.

Pakistan's Mulsim League Nawaz's vice president, Maryam Nawaz, share the news in a Twitter message.

"Police broke my room door at the hotel I was staying at in Karachi and arrested Capt. Safdar" wrote Maryam.

Maritime Affairs Minister Ali Zaidi has dismissed news that the police broke the hotel room door in order to arrest Safdar. On Twitter, he shared a video showing Safdar walking towards a mobile while chanting 'vote ko izzat do'.

"Maryum once again lying that the hotel door was broken. Video shows otherwise. Do u see any handcuffs? Does it look like he was arrested by force?" Zaidi wrote.

Earlier, police registered a case against PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz, Capt (R) Safdar, and 200 others at the Brigade Police Station in Karachi for alleged desecration of Mazar-e-Quaid.

The desecration of Jinnah's Mazar has been widely criticized in Pakistan. On Sunday, at Mazar-e-Quaid, Safdar asked his political workers to chant the PML-N slogan 'vote ko izzat do.'

Any political activity in the Mazar-e-Quaid's vicinity is a punishable offense. Anyone found guilty of this crime, can go to jail for three years.

So far, no other arrests have been reported in the case.

Ingrates! No shukr! Ahsan Firamosh! Desecrating the Quaid's mazar and even the resting places of any of the Founding Fathers of Pakistan is unacceptable at all. It is not only shocking but unbelievable that these people will stoop to such a low-level of disrespect and abuse. How do these thieving politicians get a blind following of voters and supporters who behave like devotees? Where were the Bhuttos and Sharifs when Quaid e Azam fought for a separate homeland? The police have arrested Capt. (R) Safdar and now the long wait will start for a decision on how to punish him or let him off with a warning. Where are we headed? Salams
