Six labourers die while cleaning factory chemical tank in Karachi

As many as six labourers died while cleaning a chemical tank at a factory in Karachi’s SITE area Friday night.

As per details, the bodies of the labourers have been recovered from the tank on Saturday. They were shifted to a nearby medical facility for an autopsy. The families of the bereaved were informed about the deaths when they reached the factory to inquire about the labourers’ whereabouts.

They were cleaning the chemical tank inside the industrial unit located near Naurus Chowrangi in the SITE area.

The tank is 50 feet deep and the labourers had gone inside it to clean it. “They died due to poisonous gas inside it,” a rescue officer said.

No statement regarding the incident has been released by the factory management so far.

Earlier, in February, At least five people were killed and nine others were severely wounded as the boiler of a factory exploded in Kasur district. The incident took place in the area of Phool Nagar.
