(Karachi) Representatives of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), an alliance of major opposition parties, have announced to hold a public rally in Karachi on October 18. The rally was due to take place in Quetta but it coincided with PPP's Karsaz carnage.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad on Monday after attending a meeting of PDM, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Ahsan Iqbal announced a new schedule of anti-government protest rallies across the country.

Flanked by Shahiq Khaqan Abbasi, who is appointed PDM’s Secretary-General and other senior opposition leaders, Iqbal said that as part of the campaign against the government, the PDM will also hold public gatherings and rallies in Gujranwala on October 16 and in Quetta on October 25. He added that the opposition parties’ will hold massive gatherings in Peshawar and Multan on November 22 and 30, respectively.

“Finally, a massive gathering will be held in Lahore, after which this fake set up will not be able to stand on its feet and the nation will announce that they want the rule of Constitution and law in the country,” Iqbal said without mentioning the date.

He pointed out the meeting also condemned the first information report (FIR) lodged against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and other PML-N leaders.

The PML-N leader alleged that the government has damaged the Kashmir cause by implicating Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider in the FIR.

He stated that the main objective of PDM's movement is to provide relief to the people. "We demand that the country should be run according to the Constitution," he said.
