(Karachi) The Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted protective bail to Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar, the son-in-law of PML-N founder Nawaz Sharif, in a sedition case, media reported on Monday.

As per details, Safdar told the court that the case against him is based on political revenge. He said he wanted to join police investigation into the case and requested the court to grant him protective bail.

The court, headed by Justice Asjad Javed, approved Safdar's bail till October 10. The court has directed Safdar to cooperate in investigation of the case.

Earlier, Punjab police registered a case against Safdar in Gujranwala for making anti-state remarks. The police also nominated PML-N MPA Imran Khalid Butt in the case.

The case was registered at Satellite Town police station against Safdar for threatening the government and spreading hatred against state institutions. Safdar held a press conference at Butt’s residence on October 2 (Friday) ahead of Maryam’s rally where he allegedly made the remarks.

The case was registered under sections 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief), 120B (criminal conspiracy) and 124A (Sedition) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
