Freight train online booking will start from October 20: minister

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has said that freight train online booking for cargo service will be started from October 20. Old timetable for the departure and arrival of trains will be restored on October 15th as it could not be implemented due to Corona pandemic.

He was talking to journalists at Railways Headquarters after chairing a meeting of railways officials here on Saturday. He admitted that there is corruption and misappropriation in the Karachi freight system. "I have warned the concerned officers that they will be terminated if found involved in corruption and sent to jail," he claimed.

He further said that biometric system will be installed soon in the railways offices and tender in this regard will be issued within two days. Doors of railways will be closed for those who do not want to work, he warned. Regarding overloading he said, "We have decided to purchase five more weighing machines to avoid overloading of trains."
