KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar on Monday lashed out at PPP-led Sindh government over 'not letting' the development to take place in Karachi - a city that feeds the whole of Pakistan. The mayor, during his farewell press conference at KMC head office on Monday got emotional, claiming that over the tenure he had been crying for the resolution of Karachi's administrative issues, but neither the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah nor the Prime Minister Imran Khan responded to any of his letters.

"Not a single reply of thousands of letters was given," he said, throwing the record of letters he had written for the resolution of Karachi's problems. "I am not joking, the Supreme Court should take notice, prime minister should do something good for this city."

The mayor said he was unable to fix his departments over the past four years due to lack of funds. The Sindh government occupied the key revenue generating departments of KMC, in a sheer violation of the law. Akhtar said he raised voice against this injustice, but to no avail. We have approached the court of law for the rights of Karachi.

The mayor also alleged that the ruling PPP does not want Sindh and Karachi to prosper. "Karachi feeds you and your children. You have established shops here after coming from different districts of the province and today Karachi is Paris for you. We have seen houses u have purchased and built in posh localities like DHA and Clifton," mayor said without specifying any name.

"Why are you inflicting torture on the people of the city? Mayor posed question. "I am not being dramatic. I have spent the last four years stressed because of the Sindh government and the chief minister. "They don't want development, not just in Karachi but in all of Sindh. They just want to loot the city," he said, adding that the provincial government had "destroyed" Larkana, Sehwan, Dadu and Mirpurkhas.

"They want to destroy and plunder the city. They could not make Larkana, Sehwan and Dadu. [They] ruined Mirpurkhas. Now they are here to destroy the city," said the disgruntled mayor. The feudal mindset, Wasim said doesn't want an empowered local government setup, because this system makes democracy stronger. On August 10, Mayor informed reporters that his tenure was ending on 28th and that he did not foresee local government elections to be held anytime soon.
