Tharparkar: India broadcasting anti-Pakistan, sacrilegious content, SHC told
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday issued notices to federal and provincial governments, the Interior Ministry, the Information Ministry and others on a plea seeking to have the transmission of Indian radio stations in Tharparkar district of Sindh blocked. A division bench of the SHC ordered the respondents to furnish their written replies by September 17 when Syed MurAd Ali Shah moved the court against the transmission of Indian radio stations in areas of Pakistan bordering with India.
Shah submitted that Nagarparkar is the farthest town in the southeastern tip of Sindh, and it is a sensitive area due to its proximity to the Indian border.
He stated that India had started psychological warfare in Tharparkar District of Sindh, and it has increased the frequency of its Akashvani FM 102.3 radio station to incite the people of Thar against the Pakistan Army, and FM 102.3 radio station being broadcast from India was available in most parts of Tharparkar District.
Shah stated that this station was not only provoking people against the Pakistan Army, but it was also running a campaign against Islam. The FM 102.3 radio station has strong and clear presence on Nagarparkar-to-Mithi highway which was near the Pakistan-India border.
He submitted that unfortunately the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication had not taken any effective steps to counter India's psychological warfare through establishing FM radio station in the border area of Tharparkar District.
The petitioner requested the court to order the authorities to block/jam transmission of FM 102.3 radio station and any other Indian radio stations in Tharparkar District, Sindh, Pakistan, as such stations broadcast content which might not be conducive to Pakistan's national interest and prayed to set up FM radio station broadcasting across the Tharparkar District border to counter India's vicious propaganda against Pakistan's sovereignty.
