Inzamam hints at major changes in Pakistan’s ODI team

Pakistan cricket team’s chief selector Inzamamul Haq has said that the national side needs some inevitable changes

Pakistan cricket team’s chief selector Inzamamul Haq has said that the national side needs some inevitable changes following the crushing 5-0 defeat against New Zealand.

Addressing the media in Lahore, the chief selector said, “After a 5-0 defeat, changes are obvious. The One Day International [ODI] team needs a revamp, since such a defeat is not acceptable.”

Admitting lack of one-day tournaments in domestic circuit, he said, “There is only a single ODI tournament every year in Pakistan. We are working on increasing the number of tournaments since that will help the players polish their skills for the 50-over format.”

Speaking about Pakistan Super League, which is scheduled to start from February 22 in Dubai, the 47-year-old said that it is the platform for young players to improve their shortest-format skills.

He added that the Pakistan Cricket Board is focused on improving the standards of first-class and list A cricket in the domestic structure, so that it can translate to better national teams in both formats.

Giving his views of playing XI’s section criteria, he suggested, “I believe that suggestions from a selector should also be taken into account when selecting a playing eleven. Although the captain and coach are mainly involved, a selector should also be consulted in the process for better outcomes.”
