Accountability court rejected on Thursday appearance exemption application filed by deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz and son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar.

According to local media reports, the exemption application requested that the Sharif family be exempted from the court proceedings pertaining to corruption cases filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), as the family has to travel to London to visit Sharif's ailing wife, Kulsoom.

Sharif is facing three NAB references – Avenfield properties, Azizia and Hill Metal Establishment and Flagship Investments, whereas Maryam and Safdar are accused in Avenfield properties reference.

NAB requests interior ministry to put Nawaz, Maryam, Safdar on ECL

During the hearing on February 12, Sharif and Maryam had filed a petition asking for immunity from appearing at the accountability court from two weeks after February 19. The court proceedings were adjourned to February 15 (today), as the lawyer was not present in court due to the death human rights activist and lawyer Asma Jahangir’s death.

NAB had also written a letter to the interior ministry requesting the names of Sharif, his daughter and Safdar to be placed on the Exit Control List.
