SC seeks report from DG LDA regarding LDA City, partners

LAHORE: The Supreme Court on Saturday sought a complete report from the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) director general regarding land acquisition for LDA City and its partners in the project.

The SC bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar passed the orders while hearing a matter in connection with illegal marriage halls.

Earlier, the LDA DG informed the bench about status of the land acquired for the LDA City housing project with the help of partners.

The chief justice inquired whether the "Paragon" was also included among the partners.

He also ordered the LDA DG to look into the policy regarding marriage halls after hearing submissions of small marriage halls' counsel Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan.

The CJP asked the DG to inform whether the policy could be reformed or not. If not, then give the reasons in detail, he added.

However, the chief justice clarified that the relaxation could not be extended to marriage hal owners who first got their building approved on commercial basis and then opened marriage halls.

Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan had submitted that only nine marriage halls fulfilled the LDA criteria as they were constructed on about four kanals of land. He mentioned that small marriage halls did not require too much parking space as they catered to the needs of small marriage functions.
