Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has stretched its broadband network to China, Iran and Afghanistan, said (PTA) Chairman, Dr Muhammad Yasin, on Thursday. He was speaking at 5th Pakistan Telecommunication conference 2012 on 'Riding the ware of Technology and Consolidation' held at local hotel.
He said that the PTA has expanded its fiber-optic cable network at the borders of Iran and Afghanistan but there are some issues at China border because of Karakoram Range. Moreover, he said the authority in this regard is also seeking the No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from the respective countries for the expansion of its broadband network.
Chief PTA said that the authority has engaged private consultants to make the process of 3G license transparent. "Keeping the immense potential of E-commerce and mobile banking in view, the PTA has decided to take third party on board to inflate and secure the said facilities," said Yasin.
He also claimed to have proper mechanism to regulate pesky telemarketing calls and SMSes, saying that we have introduced 'Do not Call' option to avoid such calls and SMSes. In the opening remarks, Memin Rodrigues, president, SHAMROCK communication Pvt Ltd stressed the need for continued dialogue at knowledge-based forums to pursue communications and economic goals.
Other prominent speakers included Furqan Qureshi, SEVP, PTCL, Riaz Asher, CEO, Universal Service Fund, Rehan Farooqui of Multinet Pakistan, Veqarul Islam of Comptel UAE, Munib Khawaja of Schneider Electric, Maqsood Karim of Dubai Islamic Bank and others. The various sessions at the daylong conference were focused on topics like; 'Regulatory - Technology & Economic Challenges', Maximising on the power of 3G technology' and ICT- Improving access, growth, utilisation and energy'. A large number of industry professionals and stakeholder attended the conference.
