While protesting against the recent killings in Gilgit-Baltistan, scores of people on the call of Shia Ulema Council marched towards the Parliament House on Wednesday. The rally started from Markazi Imam Bargah in Sector G-6/2 and culminated near Parliament House, resulting in huge gridlock on Jinnah Avenue for about two hours.
The protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the government and the criminals involved in the killing spree. Heavy contingent of police was deployed to avert any untoward incident.
The protesters demanded of the government to arrest the culprits, otherwise warning to intensifying their protest demonstrations. The rally was also attended by Allama Sajid Naqvi, Allama Afzal Haider and Allama Taqi Shah Naqvi.
The protesters said that some elements wanted to create anarchy in the country by inciting sectarian violence, which needed to be stopped immediately. They appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of the unrest in Giligit-Baltistan and other parts of the country.
