The district and session court Hyderabad extended the bail of Syeda Wahida Shah Bukhari till April 25 in a case for violating the election laws. If proved she may be fined for Rs 1,000 as penalty or one day imprisonment.
Bukhari appeared before the 6th Additional District and Session Judge Shahid Pervez Memon on Wednesday and pleaded for extension of her bail in the case on her conviction by the summary trial conducted by Returning Officer Asghar Ali Siyal of PS-53 constituency of Sindh Assembly Tando Muhammad Khan.
She had allegedly assaulted two women members of polling staff during the by-polls on February 25 in Tando Muhammad Khan. In her brief interaction with the media outside the court, she said she would not comment on anything related to the cases being heard by the two courts, adding that only her lawyer could address the queries.
Her counsel Hyder Imam Rizvi said that they requested the judge to extend her bail as a separate case relating to the verdict given by 5-member Election Commission of Pakistan would be taken up at Sindh High Court on April 19. He argued that both the judgements including the one given by the ECP members and the Returning Officers were without grounds and, therefore, they had been challenged in the courts.
