Appeal to maulanas

Karachi is the largest city of the Muslim world with population estimates of over 20 million. Inhabitants from all over including the provinces now form part of Karachi. Karachi is therefore called a mini-Pakistan. The city therefore needs not only the special attention of the provincial government as well as the federal government, judiciary and the army, but the required powers for governance must be given to the permanent residents of the city, without which the situation of present lawlessness would continue.
The mini-Pakistan (Karachi) has multiple issues which include the land mafia, drug mafia, extortion (bhatta) gangs, kidnapping for ransom and targeted killings, which are also common in the large cities of Third World countries. These issues remained under control till 2007 and the country was reaping its benefits with a high growth rate and lower inflation. Karachi is the engine of growth for Pakistan and the breadbasket for a large population of the country. However, the current position has changed and there is large-scale lawlessness, unemployment and inflation.
The lawlessness prevailing in society needs to be eradicated, with effort by all people living in the city and with interest intends welfare and well-being. The mosques can play their role as Islam condemns all such evils like land grabbing, drug dealing, extortion, kidnapping for ransom, targeted killing. The maulanas in a sermon every Friday yet generally talk about everything except the current evils prevailing in the city. They have the opportunity to highlight the social evils and crimes committed in the city.
A appeal to the maulanas of all school of thoughts to at least once a monthly cover and speak on these issues from the Islamic point of view in their lectures and condemn extortion (bhatta), kidnapping for ransom, targeted killing etc. The uneducated people may understand such an appeal/condemnation from the maulanas as some of these crimes are stated to be carried out in the name of Islam.
