Chairman Prime Minister's Task Force on Islamabad Faisal Sakhi Butt on Sunday said the fruit and vegetable market located in sector I-11 would be developed on modern lines following the international standards.
He was addressing the oath-taking ceremony of the new elected office bearers of Anjuman-e-Whole Sale Fruit and Commission Agents of the Fruit and Vegetable Market.
This market has acquired the status of a central trade hub of the region due to its ever-increasing trade and business volume and it require further development, Faisal Sakhi Butt observed.
He said that Islamabad would also be transformed into a regional business hub of the globe in wake of its strategic location through promoting business activities and upgrading the allied infrastructure in the federal capital.
He said that the task force has been assigned the responsibility to make the federal capital a model city and has embarked upon a gigantic programme to make Islamabad a model metropolis.
He said traders community is the backbone of the economy and they should cooperate with the representative of the city to address the real issues.
Faisal Sakhi Butt said that the problems of the katchi abadi, model villages must be resolved at priority and workable solutions to the problems of the residents will be sought.
He said that budget should be enhanced for maintenance of the government flats, and provision of civic amenities in the G and I series sectors.
He said that the charismatic beauty of the nullahs and ravines flowing through Islamabad once the hallmark of the federal capital have been badly polluted. He added that concrete steps for cleaning and up gradation of these nullahs must be taken.
The mushroom growth of encroachments in the markets are painting ugly picture of the city and co-ordinated efforts are required for removal of the encroachment in collaboration with traders and market associations.
Fasial Sakhi said that the increasing business activities in the fruit and vegetable market involving the traders from across the region including India and Pakistan has supplemented our resolve to turn it in to model city for promoting trade and business in the area for the benefit of the people.
He said that Fruit and Vegetable Market is providing quality fruits and vegetables not only to twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad but to the other areas of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa and Punjab.
