The services of renowned scholar, researcher, historian, writer, intellectual and ex-vice chancellor of Sindh University Jamshoro Dr Nabi Bux Baloch were eulogised by the speakers at a seminar organised by Dr N A Baloch Institute of Research and Heritage of Provincial Antiquities Department to mark his first death anniversary at local hotel on Friday.
Sindh Minister for Antiquities Makhdoom Jamil-uz-Zaman attended the seminar as chief guest. The speakers at the first session of the seminar, while delivering speeches on the achievements of Dr Nabi Bux Baloch, said he was a towering personality and had rendered marvellous and matchless research services specially to promote the cultural heritage, folk art, classical music and history of Sindh.
They were of the view that services made by him were recognised not only at national but international level. They were also of the opinion that the vacuum which was made due to Dr N A Baloch death could not be filled in centuries. The writers, educationists and politicians through their papers/speeches urged the government not only to print out the remaining manuscript of research work of Dr N A Baloch but his books on folk art, cultural heritage, history and geography should also be got translated in other languages.
Sindh Minister for Antiquities Makhdoom Jamil-uz-Zaman while delivering his speech said it was great achievement of Dr N A Baloch that he connected the broken and scattered chain of history, cultural heritage and folk art of Sindh and consolidated it into documents. He said Dr N A Baloch also resolved many historical riddles in the history but still there was need of research on it as according to him, the work left by Dr N A Baloch was yet to be completed. He said it was because of Dr Baloch research that "we are in knowledge about the historical link of Sindh with Iran, Afghanistan and Sammar Qand.
He said the purpose of establishing Dr N A Baloch Institute at Hyderabad was to extend the research work of Dr Baloch upto young generations, writers and educationalists. He thanked to University of Sindh for providing piece of land for establishment of Dr N A Baloch Institute on permanent basis, adding that at present this institute was working on seven research projects and hopefully it would complete the same with success.
Renowned writer Dr Abdul Ghaffar Soomro in his speech paid rich tributes to Dr Baloch and said that he was a practical researcher who did his job in the field with real people at grassroots level. He said Dr Baloch made good job in folk art and literature and history which would be remained in the history of Sindh forever.
Dr Mehtab Akbar Rashdi said that in addition to being a researcher, writer Dr N A Baloch was a good educationalist who after Allama I Kazi proved himself a good administrator and had rendered marvellous services in the field of education. She was of the view that Dr Baloch was great expert of Sindhi language and literature. Dr Yaqoob Mughal while highlighting on the life achievements of Dr Baloch termed him as a great scholar of the Asia subcontinent. He said Dr Baloch had command on the Sindhi, Arabic, Persian, Siraiki, and English languages and added that such type of scholars were being produced once a centuries. He also demanded to publish Dr Baloch research work.
Professor Dr Riaz Ahmed from Punjab said that Sindh was fortune enough to have the writers, researchers and historian like Dr Baloch. He said that due to research of Dr Baloch the future of Sindh should be brighten. Allama Iqbal Open University Vice Chancellor Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi said that "we need institutes to elaborate and understand the research work of Dr Nabi Bux Baloch. His research should be made accessible to the young generations for their academic and future career."
Provincial Minister for Antiquities Makhdoom Jameel-uz-Zaman also inaugurated the website of Dr Nabi Bux Baloch on this occasion by pushing the button of computer. During the seminar, seven books related to work of Dr N A Baloch were launched. These books include 1. Dr Baloch-Ja-Makala Elum-Wa-Adab & Shakhsiyatoon, 2. Dr N A Baloch The Scholar Great, 3. Shah Abdul Latif Hayati-Jo-Ahwaal Aen-Risalay Je-Tareekh, 4. Sindh Studies, educational & archeological, 5. Khazana Dr Nabi Bux Baloch, 6. Jaaman-Sandoo-Jaam, and 7. Monthly Magazine Mehran Dr Nabi Bux Baloch Number. Advisor to CM Sarfraz Rajar, Dr Khizar Noshahi, Dr Saleem Akhtar, Dr Laiq Zardari, Professor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui, Dr Mumtaz Bhutto and many other writers, educationists and elite citizens attended this first session of the seminar.
