Significant areas of Islamic banking were discussed to achieve the goal of replacing a traditional banking with Islamic financial solution, which includes cash management, e-banking and project financing. This was main theme of discussion of leading bankers, who shared their views on the steps mutually taken by chief financial officers (CFOs) and banks to achieve Islamic Financial Solution during a conference arranged by the Institute of Charted Accountant of Pakistan (ICAP) here on Monday.
The theme of the conference was "CFO Driving Sustainable Organisational Success" an interactive panel discussion on the topic of 'Bank as industry partners- Collaboration and Expectations'. Irfan Siddiqui President and CEO Meezan Bank Ltd; Atif Aslam Bajwa-CEO Bank Al-Falah and Mohammed Ali, Chief Representative and Retail Head North of HBL were the panellists and Ms Eithne Treanor - Special correspondent, CNBC and Managing Director, ETreanor was moderator.
Panellists highlighted the relationship between banks and industry and discussed the ways and means of investment in commercial and development projects, the steps mutually taken by CFOs and banks to achieve Islamic Financial Solution and significant banking areas ie, cash management, e-banking, project financing were also discussed.
The conference was attended by more than four hundred professionals from different walks of life. The Vice President ICAP Nazir Ahmed Chaudhri highlighted the vision of the Institute. James lockyer - Director of Education at Association of Corporate Treasurers, UK shared his views on 'Treasury - Driving the businesses: a CFO's Perspective'. In his presentations, Nadeem Naqvi - Managing Director, Karachi Stock Exchange, Highlighted the strategies for Raising Funds through Financial Instruments.
Another interactive session was on "CFO - Rapid Fire Session" where CFOs Bananno Giuseppe - Head of Finance and Control, Nestle Pakistan, Misbah Burney - CFO Tetrapak, Usman Azhar - CFO Warid Telecom, Aamir Ahsan - CFO Fuji Fertiliser Bin Qasim Limited and Aftab Ahmed - CFO Oil and Gas development Company Limited were present.
Nahil Mahmood - Chief Information Security Officer, MCB Bank Limited and President, Cloud Security Alliance Pakistan, explained a case of Cloud Computing: Proficient Strategic Move and Value for CFO's and highlighted the issues being faced by the organisations. Shahid Mustafa - Chief Risk Officer, Tameer Microfinance Bank, presented a case study : Easy Paisa - Innovation of Banking to the unbanked. He briefly explained his case study and branchless banking. Tajamal Shah - Area General Counsel, British American Tobacco enlightened the Legal Hot Points: A CFO needs to know. The conference was a huge success and the participants hoped that ICAP would continue to arrange similar events in future.
