Spin bowlers send South Africa crashing

Published February 4, 2018 Updated February 4, 2018 11:43am

CENTURION: Indian wrist spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav sent South Africa crashing to 118 all out in the second one-day international at SuperSport Park on Sunday.

Leg-spinner Chahal picked up a career-best five for 22 and left-armer Yadav took three for 20 as South Africa were dismissed for the lowest total in one-day internationals at the ground.

The two wrist spinners both extracted plenty of turn from a dry pitch on a ground which normally does not help spin bowling after Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and sent South Africa in.

South Africa, led by new captain Aiden Markram and missing leading batsmen in regular captain Faf du Plessis and former captain AB de Villiers because of injury, collapsed after a promising start.

Hashim Amla and the out-of-form Quinton de Kock put on 39 for the first wicket before Amla was caught behind for 23 off an inside edge from Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

The spinners then took command, with three wickets falling with the total on 51.

De Kock was caught at deep midwicket off Chahal for 20 before Markram fell for eight in similar fashion off Yadav. Four balls later David Miller was out for nought, caught at slip as he pushed at a ball which spun sharply.

JP Duminy and new cap Khaya Zondo both scored 25 and shared a partnership of 48 before the last six wickets tumbled for 19 runs.

India lead the six-match series 1-0 after winning the first match in Durban by six wickets.
