Commissioner of Karachi, Roshan Ali Shaikh has directed the officials to expedite ongoing campaign against hoarders and retailers violating the price list of edibles and daily consumable items, jointly agreed upon by the Office of Commissioner and representatives of traders and retailers.
The Commissioner during a meeting on Tuesday also urged the deputy commissioners of all districts of city to ensure that milk sellers also do not resort to price hike. He said strict action must be taken against all price hikers under the Price Control Act. Roshan Ali Shaikh dispelling the impression that retailers were forced to run their business in loss mentioned that prices were fixed after extensive review of the market situation and availability of the products.
"Pricing that is regularly reviewed is finalised once representatives of Karachi administration, Karachi Wholesalers and Grocers Association, Jodia Bazar Traders Association, Karachi Atta Association and Karachi Retailers Group unanimously agree to it," he elaborated.
On the occasion the Karachi Commissioner was informed that during the campaign against price hikers, initiated in the city on March 05, 4398 shopkeepers have been challaned for violating the law and an amount of Rs 3.9 million has been collected from them.
