Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA), North Zone, Chairman, Abdul Jabbar Chaudhry, has demanded the federal government to immediately withdraw fuel adjustment surcharge from electricity bills of the flour milling industry, otherwise millers would be compelled to jack up flour prices.
While addressing a press conference on Monday, he pointed out that if government would not fulfilled their demands' the prices of 20-kilogram wheat flour bag would increase up to Rs 625, which would be over burden of the common man. He further demanded the government not only to withdraw fuel adjustment surcharge but also the General Sales Tax (GST) from flour milling industry.
"PFMA would call the executive committee meeting on April 5, the flour millers would chalk out future strategy and the line of action", he added. He said that the option to call strike would also under consideration. It is worth mentioning here that the government had already increase wheat support price by Rs 100 now it Rs 1,050 per maund and the flours mills had the opinion that the wheat flour price would swell by Rs 100 per 20-kilogram bag.
Former chairman PFMA, Asim Raza Ahmad, said that the government should provide relief to flour milling industry to ensure easy availability of wheat flour in the open market. He said the government had increased wheat support price, which would ultimately impact over the flour prices.
