The power-reliant textile mills have demanded diversion of gas supply from Captive Power Plants (CPPs) to Generation Companies (GENCOs) to improve electricity generation besides equal billing to industry. Talking to Business Recorder, these circles pointed out that they were paying more than double in the shape of utility bills against those textile mills running on gas-fed CPPs.
A rough estimate suggests that a power-reliant textile mill is supposed to pay Rs 13 per unit against merely Rs 5 per unit of the mills running on gas-fed CPPs. Therefore, they stressed the point that total quantity of available gas should be diverted to Pepco-run thermal units from industry-owned CPPs. Generation of electricity on gas is yet cheaper than furnace oil and it is right time to take a bold step like this, they added.
Further, they said that the body like All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has disappointed them heavily for not advocating their case in befitting manner at the appropriate forum. They said the APTMA leadership has invested all its energies in winning the case of gas-fed CCPs-owned textile mills. According to these circles, the CPPs are highly inefficient due to outdate machinery consuming more gas to produce electricity against the Pepco-owned GENCOs.
