Deadline for finalising voter lists Sindh Assembly seeks one-month extension

The Sindh Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution unanimously, seeking a one-month extension in the deadline for finalising electoral rolls to carrying out corrections in voters' basic data and enlisting new voters for the next general elections.
During Sindh Assembly session, which held here with Speaker Nisar Khuhro in the chair, a lady legislator of Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Humera Alwani, tabled a resolution in the house, urging the provincial government to approach the federal government for extending the deadline for finalisation of voters' lists for one-month.
The motion received a across the board support from the members, which states "this assembly resolves that the government should approach the federal government to extend the deadline for finalising the voters' lists for a month for carrying out corrections and enrol the new names in the voters' lists for forthcoming general election".
Alwani said there were huge errors found in the preliminary electorates' lists issued by the Election Commission, which needed corrections while the deadline for finalisation of the list should be extended so that the new voters could also be enlisted.
She also demanded of the government to arrest the culprits, who tampered with electoral lists with a view to find the masterminds behind the conspiracy. She said one official made 15,000 thumb marks alone to change the constituencies of voters. She said a greater majority of the voters were still unaware of their place of casting votes had been changed to Balochistan or from urban to rural parts of the province and who were willing to exercise their rights of self-determination in areas they were living at present.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) Muzzamal Qureshi said the voters' lists had discrepancies and pointed out that one of the residential blocks of Shanti Nagar area in Gulshan-e-Iqbal had been found as listed with seven thousands votes whereas it was originally containing some 25,00 to 28,00 electorates. He said the election commission should solve the issue.
