Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor urges media to dispel negative impression
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Barrister Masood Kausar has said that honesty and sincerity based efforts for promoting sense of realisation towards image building of the country is not only the best way to dispel the negative perceptions but to further strengthen balanced attitudes in society as well.
Talking in a joint meeting of the office-bearers of Peshawar Press Club and the Khyber Union of Journalists at Governor's House, Peshawar on Monday, governor particularly referred to the situation in Fata and said that it is quite different as compared to few years back.
In fact, he added the terrorism and militancy oriented difficult circumstances which, we as a nation have been going through particularly in Fata are not the home grown rather alien to the indigenous traditions, culture and civic norms and values. The governor pointed out that this region has been focus of international community because of prevailing situation for quite some time and the negative image being portrayed by certain circles about Fata is not the same.
The media, he added, needs to evaluate the situation; project correct findings and dispel the negative impression. Referring to development works in Fata the governor said that not only complete transparency is being maintained in government expenditures but the utilisation of funds is also made to the maximum extent.
Highlighting the importance of the role and responsibility of the media, the governor said, "you are the people who act as ears and eyes in the society which indeed needs demonstrating complete sense of responsibility. In a democratic society like ours, he added, the role of civic bodies becomes all the more important in mainstreaming the people from cross sections. This, he remarked, in itself helps in strengthening and development of the democratic system. Referring to another point, he said, it is always his earnest desire to inter act with journalists on frequent basis and in future too, he will make this possible.
Meanwhile, Saif-ur-Rehman Saifi, Chairman of the Peshawar Press Club and Arshad Aziz Malik, President of the Khyber Union of Journalists while talking on behalf of their respective organisations highlighted their achievements as well as future plans for ensuring better working environment for the journalists. It merits a mention here that both Saif-u-Rehman Saifi and Arshad Aziz Malik have retained their offices. They also thanked the governor for his help in ensuring better working of the journalist community of the province especially the Peshawar Press Club and the Khyber Union of Journalists.
