Majority of Sindh government contractual employees terminated

The Sindh government has terminated a majority of contractual employees on the Supreme Court's orders but retained some retired officials as consultants and advisors, Sindh Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ayaz Soomro told the House on Monday.
With Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly, Shehla Raza in chair, the minister on behalf of Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah responded to questions asked during the session about the Sindh Services, General Administration and Co-ordination Department. He said that the government had retained some senior retired officials as their services were required. The majority of contractual employees had been relieved from their services, he added.
Replying to a question asked by Public Accounts Committee's Chairman, Jam Tamachi, he said that the Sindh government had retained some retired officials while the federal and Punjab government had retained thousands of retired officials. He said that the Sindh government's move to reappoint the retired official would not hit the junior officials' rights of promotion. He said keeping in view the rising complaints of public, the government had increased the number of secretaries to 50 in order to improve services.
Responding to another question asked by National Peoples Party's (NPP) Arif Mustafa Jatoi, Soomro said due to ever-increasing population of the province, the government had increased the secretaries' number. According to Jatoi, in 2007, the number of secretaries in the Sindh government's departments was 30, which increased to 36 in 2008 and in 2011 it stood at 50.
