President Asif Ali Zardari has issued special directives to eradicate "bhatta mafia" in the city and take action against all those responsible without discrimination. This was stated by the Interior Minister Rehman Malik while talking to media during his visit to the headquarters of Pakistan Coast Guards (PCG) here on Monday.
Director General PCG, Brigadier Sheheryar Khan was also present on the occasion. He said that stringent action will be taken against 'bhatta mafia' (money extortion) and 'parchi' (chit) system to eradicate this menace from Karachi. Malik said that Interior Ministry will extend full co-operation to Sindh government in this regard to curb money extortion. He pointed out that a system is being introduced in the country to control illegal sale and snatching of mobile phones. This system, connected with the systems of all cellular phones selling and operating companies, will spot and identify the users of snatched mobile phones with the help of their EMI numbers, he added.
He said that this system will also spot the place of users of snatched phones. Malik said that he has made it mandatory for PCG personnel to examine travel documents to control the illegal travel and smuggling of goods including diesel between Iran and Pakistan. He pointed out that he has asked PCG officials to install a positioning system which can help Pakistani fishermen to remain inside Pakistani waters and avoid their arrest at the hands of Indian coastal authorities. Interior Minister said that India will also be asked at next secretary level meeting to install a similar system in its territorial waters to caution its own fishermen.
Responding to a question, he said that the family of Osama Bin Laden has been kept under Islamic traditions. However, his widows have been referred to the court for illegal entry into Pakistan. We will implement court orders in this regard, he noted. To another question, he said that President Asif Ali Zardari is the Supreme Commander of Armed Forces and nobody is allowed to use derogatory language against him.
