Lahore Electricity Supply Company (Lesco) is facing a shortfall of 1,100MW electricity to meet the current demand of 2,800MW in its area which has been rising after increase in the day and night temperature in the Lahore division during the past week. Lesco is meeting the shortfall by 10 to 18 hours load shedding in the urban and rural areas, which has also disrupted drinking water supply through Wasa tube wells operated on electricity.
Lesco supplies electricity to the five thickly populated districts of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana, Okara and Qasur through 3.4 million domestic, industrial, commercial and agriculture tubewell connections. Lesco spokesman said that electricity supply from the national grid to Lesco had been curtailed as hydel power generation had sharply declined after depletion of water reservoirs in Tarbela and Mangla earlier this month.
