Sindh University administration has taken exception to the press statement issued by representatives of Sindh University Teachers Association (SUTA) on Saturday in which they have observed that the acting Vice Chancellor Dr Parveen Shah was not allowing them appropriate audience and that she was giving more time to extra co-curricular activities.
The university administration clarified in a statement issued on Saturday that the acting VC has always welcomed the SUTA for meeting and dialogue and she has formally meet them when ever they have so desired and added she is also scheduled to meet SUTA Executive Council on Monday (March 19) which will be the 4th consecutive time since assumption of her office since February 22.
The university administration observed that as far as appointment of pro vice chancellor main campus is concerned, Dr Muhammad Tahir Rajput has not been appointed as pro Vice Chancellor, he has rather been assigned to look after day to day affairs of Office of Pro Vice Chancellor main campus in addition to his duties as Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences, hence the question of adopting of formal procedure for this appointment does not arise at all.
The administration has further clarified that acting VC has convened a series of meetings to address law and order issue at the campus and most of these meeting were also attended by SUTA representatives. In addition several practical measures have also been taken include that regular check at entry points, frequent patrolling, increase in number of check points, deployment of own security guards apart of police and rangers and putting ban on the entrances of private vehicles in close proximity to the teaching departments.
The university administration further inform that not a single shot was fired at the Faculty of Pharmacy as alleged by SUTA in their statement and clarified that on the contrary due to vigilant security measures and immediate intervention the quarrelling students were arrested on the spot. The University administration on behalf of the acting VC retreated its commitment for improvement of law and order situation and maintain that it would welcome all positive moves made by every one including SUTA.
