Renowned leader of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Yaseen Malik on Saturday strongly refuted the claim of the main character in memo case Mansoor Ijaz that he (Yaseen) met the head of Indian intelligence agency RAW. Yaseen filed an application through his wife Mashaal Yaseen to the judicial commission probing the memo case headed by Justice Qazi Faez Isa.
The commission accepting the application of Mashaal informed Mansoor Ijaz that Malik has rejected his claim of meeting with the head of RAW. In addition, he said that he did not know Ijaz. In reply, Ijaz said that he stands by to what he said earlier. Ijaz had claimed that he introduced Yaseen Malik to the then deputy chief (later chief) of India's RAW intelligence agency.
The commission ordered Mashaal to appear on Sunday after consulting her lawyer. Mashaal stated before the commission that the repute of Yaseen was damaged by Ijaz's statement and people were demanding of Yaseen to clarify his position. Zahid Bukhari, Counsel for Haqqani also demanded of the commission to call all the third parties which Ijaz had mentioned/recorded in his statement.
During cross examination, Ijaz insisted that Haqqani acknowledged the email contained the content of the memo. He (Haqqani) added and authorised to transmit it to former US National Security Council Advisor James Jones. Ijaz claimed that Haqqani also conveyed to him that he was doing so with the authority of President Asif Zardari. Ijaz further replied that Haqqani and President Asif Zardari were trying to subjugate Pak military. Haqqani had been working with US intelligence and help orchestrate entire plan to allow CIA, NSA and Defence personnel to remain present in Pakistan to protect US interest. His action led to a conflict between ex-DG, ISI, Lieutenant General Shuja Pasha and former head of CIA, Leon Panetta.
Over the question of permissible number of US official in Pakistan, Ijaz said that as a result of presence in Pakistan, Government of US was able to gather information about location of al Qaeda Leader Osama bin Laden. Ijaz alleged that Haqqani and President of Pakistan tried to create an environment of conflict between institutions. The witness further said that he believed that Asif Zardari had given permission to US President for raid on May 2, 2011 on Osama's residence without the consent and consultation of Pak army. Consequently, army was embarrassed, which further deepened the conflict.
