Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday has said that he has directed the finance ministry to create 100,000 new jobs for the youth. Talking to media persons after the Convocation of the Kinnaird College for Women here, he said the democratically elected government would utilise all available resources to make the budget people-friendly, despite economic odds and challenges.
He said he had directed the finance ministry to create 100,000 jobs for young graduates while the information ministry would launch various IT programs across the country. "It is the first government in the history which despite all odds‚ have completed four years in power. we will also write the history by presenting the fifth budget," PM said.
HE said President Asif Ali Zardari is addressing the joint sitting of the parliament tomorrow in which he will give his policy statement. He said it is the first time in the history of Pakistan that a democratically elected president will be addressing the joint session for the fifth consecutive time.
Earlier‚ addressing the Convocation of Kinnaird College for Women in Lahore Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that empowerment of women and minorities is a key to realising the cherished goal of a tolerant‚ moderate and progressive Pakistan.
He announced 20 million rupees for construction of IT Block‚ 10 million rupees as research grant‚ 10 million rupees for Endowment Fund and 10 million rupees for purchase of vehicles for the college. He said empowerment of a woman is not merely empowerment of an individual. Rather‚ it is empowerment of a family and indeed the society at large. He said this is the first government in Pakistan s history‚ which has had a remarkable representation of women working at various tiers of the government.
"I have no doubt in my mind that women have the potential to transform the society from inside out provided they are provided with enabling environment to realise their God-given potential," PM said. Gilani said that Mohtaram Benazir Bhutto Shaheed was a strong advocate who dedicated her life for the rights of the women. It is in line with her vision for women empowerment that the present democratic government has introduced a number of reforms to enhance the role of women in political, legislative,, economic and social domains Prime Minister said that Kinnaird College has always produced high achievers. He congratulated the Principal and faculty members on the excellent result in the last academic year.
