Deputy British High Commissioner & Director for UK Trade & Investment Francis Campbell said on Wednesday UK's departmental store with 30 different brands will start operation in Karachi by the end of April. He was talking to the media after addressing the members of Business Forum of Punjab (BFP) at a local hotel on Wednesday.
President BFP Ibrahim Qureshi, Chairman PakPur Haroon Khawja and Chairman BFP Nabeel Hashmi were also present. The UK envoy avoided direct reply to the much-likely conflict between US and Iran. He said that the UK had already issued travel advisory regarding the security situation in Pakistan and there was no need of refreshing it. According to him, the UK businessmen were also focusing Punjab as next destination of their investments and his office would be happy in matchmaking of local and UK entrepreneurs.
He also avoided direct comment on regional uncertainty. Regarding market access to Pakistan textile, he said the UK would fully support Pakistan in granting GSP plus status. According to him, both the premiers of UK and Pakistan have had agreed to take bilateral trade to 2.5 billion pound sterling by 2015 and efforts were underway to achieve the target.
Earlier, President BFP Ibrahim Qureshi briefed the visiting envoy on the composition of BFP and was an initiative by PakPur Foundation. He also discussed the role that Britain could play in helping to revive the stagnated Pakistani economy via increased trade and foreign direct investment.
