Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Ishaq Dar has been appointed leader of the opposition in upper house of parliament. According to Senate Secretariat, Chairman Senate Nayyar Hussain Bokhari has declared Senator Ishaq Dar as the new Leader of Opposition in the House following a letter received in support of Dar by 24 senators, which included 14 of the PML-N, seven of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) and three independent members.
Earlier, Senator Ishaq Dar had moved his application in the chamber of Senate Chairman asking to declare him leader of the opposition owing to support of the majority of the opposition and that no other candidate has filed any application against him. The JUI-F also wrote a letter to the Chairman and expressed support of the party's seven senators to PML-N's Dar. The PML-N's Ishaq Dar is replacing JUI-F's Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidery. Dar was re-elected unopposed as senator on the PML-N ticket on the seats reserved for technocrats from Punjab.
