Fesco Engineers Association and Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union (CBA) have expressed concern over non-serious attitude of government towards their demand and threaten to launch indefinite tools down strike if their demands were not accepted.
Addressing a joint emergent meeting of Fesco, Ghazanfar Ali Khan Baloch, President, All Pakistan Power Engineers Association, said that Pepco engineers and workers has been protesting for their demands and meeting were also held with Ministry of Water and Power but government failed to give any positive response or assurance to abandon the privatisation of power sector. He reiterated his demands and warned that the workers and engineers would be forced to observe tool down strike and this time this strike would be for indefinite period.
Mujahid Pervez Chattha, General Secretary, Fesco Engineer Association, Masood Salahudin, Bashir Ahmed, Mian Rashid Ahmed Regional General Secretary Hydro Union and Rana Ghulam Jaffar Regional, Chairman of Union, also addressed the meeting and alleged that planning commission has launched a so called power sector reform programme on behest of international oil companies and monetary organisations which will sabotage the power sector. They demanded to bundle down this programme. They also opposed appointment of non-technical, private and Junior Engineer as Chief Executive Officer and demanded immediate dismissal Dr Nadeemul Haq. The also demanded of installation of hydel and coal fired power plants to generate cheap electricity instead of costly power houses run by oil. They also demanded that Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) should pay 67 billion arrear of Pepco. The speakers also demanded to form a high power commission headed by Engineers Shamsul Mulk to purpose viable and practicable reforms in power sector.
