Gas supply to industrial sector in Faisalabad Region remained suspended on the second consecutive day, here on Friday, while Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) authorities announced that the current gas load shedding will continue for four days. Gas consuming industrial units most of them export oriented and labour intensive textile units now allow gas supply for three days in a week after 76 days.
Talking to newsmen, Chaudhry Salamat Ali, Chief Co-ordinator, and former Chairman, Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PHMA) North Zone said that industrialisation plays an important role in the economic growth of a country that earns foreign exchange and also provides jobs to a large number of professional, technical people and labour force but in the absence of basic factor of production like gas & electricity, industrial productivity and efficiency is greatly hampered.
A shock has been given to the economy by stoppage of gas and the industrial productivity has badly suffered, he added. Shortage of gas and 6 to 8 hours load shedding of electricity in the region is on rise that will result in the increase in number of more sick industries, whereas, Pakistan badly needs investment to run the wheel of the economy, he pointed out.
