In Punjab Assembly's 35th session here on Thursday, six bills- five unanimous and one by majority vote - were passed by the House. Rana Muhammad Iqbal was in the Chair.
The bills passed on the occasion were: The Punjab Katchi Abadis (Amendment) Bill 2012; The Punjab Public Defender Service Act 2007 (Repeal) Bill 2007; The Punjab Government Servants Housing Foundation (Amendment) Bill 2011; The Settlement Commissioners (Validation of Orders) (Repeal) Bill 2011; The Evacuee Property and Displaced Persons Laws (Repeal) Bill 2011, The Walled City of Lahore Bill 2011.
The Walled City of Lahore Bill 2011 was recommended by the Standing Committee on Planning and Development and was referred to a select committee consisting of 10 legislators, asking them to report on it thereon by March 31. Opposition leader Raja Riaz in the Assembly premises, speaking to journalists on Waheeda Shah's issue, said that media had created this hype. He said in winning of an independent candidate in Punjab Assembly, agreement with PML-N leader Ishaq Dar was flouted.
Law Minister Punjab Rana Sanaullah dilating with media in the Assembly said that it was incorrect that PPP was not respecting judiciary or their decisions. In the Assembly, a number of female legislators in their speeches stressed to give women their legitimate rights on the occasion of International Women Day.
Minister Haji Ehsanuddin of Auqaf replying to queries on the occasion stated that there was only one Bait-ul-Maal committee in Gujranwala, which spent Rs 7,536,316 in period 2008-09, for helping needy. The Minister to a question said that government helped 879 students by giving them scholarship in recent three years.
Punjab Minister stated that in Rawalpindi district Rs 3,891,259 were allocated to Bait-ul-Maal, while Mandi Bhauddin was given Rs 3,083,838 in year 2009. The Minister to a query stated that total area of Bait-ul-Maal in Punjab was 77,429 acres. A Call Attention Notice by MPA Mohsin Latif regarding Railway Police operation, on which he suffered humiliation, was referred to committee by the Chair.
