Father of Pakistan's atomic programme Dr A. Q. Khan called upon the corporate sector and business community to pursue their social responsibilities for setting up educational and technical centers in the country.
He was presiding over the 7th annual prize distribution ceremony of Din College for Women at Chiniot, a project of Chiniot Anjuman Islamia where more than 500 girls are getting education in different disciplines.
Khan said Pakistan lacks centers of higher learning and experienced and qualified educationalists/technologists. Since we were still an underdeveloped country we ought to put more emphasis on technical and engineering education, he added.
Dr Khan said that industrialists, businessmen and bankers who belonged to Chiniot have a social responsibility to set up universities and technical colleges in the area to pay back to the place from where their forefathers rose to the prominence and affluence.
The function was also attended by Chairman Chiniot Anjuman Islamia and prominent industrialist S.M. Muneer, Sardar Mohammad Yasin Malik, S.M Navid , prominent industrialists of Karachi and vice chancellors of various universities.
