The struggle of Pakistan Muslim League-Likeminded (PML-L) leaders for reunion with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has finally borne fruit, as the central command of the party may soon catch the bus of their former boss -Nawaz Sharif. The disappointment to clinch any seat in the upcoming Senate polls, sources revealed, compelled the PML-L leaders to seriously try to come into the fold of PML-N or Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The party is so desperate that it has given March 6 deadline to PML-N for accepting its conditions if it wants to reunite the PML, divided into different factions, following October 1999 coup or they will avail rest of the options which, sources added, is PTI.
They have also told the PML-N leadership that if the PML-L joins the PML-N, other factions will also come into the fold of the party, as they all wanted a united PML. A meeting between Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan of PML-N and Saleem Saifullah Khan and Humayun Akhtar Khan took place, in which, they made it clear to Nisar that if their conditions were not considered, they may not come back again.
They further said that Chaudhry Nisar, a close confidant of Nawaz Sharif, had assured them they would be given good news on March 6. There are strong indications that the party will soon be reunited as hectic deliberations are underway to reunite the PML.A senior official of PML-L has claimed that all the obstacles in the way of reuniting the PML have been removed and the party would soon be united.
He said that in present circumstances, the only party which will suffer the most is PML-N and the ultimate beneficiary will be PPP if the opportunity is missed. According to sources the lukewarm response from two provinces including Sindh and Balochistan where the party had nominal presence, was the main reason which melt the ice between the two parties.
They said that Saleem Saifullah Khan, Hamayun Akhtar Khan, Haroon Akhtar Khan and Kashmala Tariq and others were receiving positive signals from PML-N leader for reunion of the parties, which is also one of the reasons they lost interest in party matters. The act of PML-L seeking refuge under the umbrella of PML-N mocks its claims of championing against dynastic politics.
The PML-L leaders have been criticising the 18th Amendment saying that the abolition of Article 17 (4) from the constitution, made it mandatory to hold elections within the political parties, had curtailed promotion of democracy within the party and strengthened dynastic politics.
