'Eunuchs to get inheritance rights soon'

The eunuchs of Sindh province would get rights of inheritance very soon, well-placed sources privy to social welfare department told Business Recorder on Thursday. Following the verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding the provision of equal rights to the eunuchs of the country, the social welfare department of Sindh government has made very serious efforts in this regard.
According to the initial survey of social welfare department there are more than 3,000 eunuchs living in various districts while the survey is still continue, sources said. Social welfare department has written letters to the hi-ups of revenue department, Board of Revenue and law department for taking actions regarding the implementation of rights of inheritance for the eunuchs of province, sources said.
Officials of social welfare department in their letters mentioned that according to the verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan, we are bound to give full rights of inheritance to the eunuchs of province, sources said. The letter emphasised on the proper legislation regarding the issue, the law department has also started work in this regard as well.
The focal person of said project and additional secretary social welfare, Dr Iqbal Saeed has confirmed this while talking to Business Recorder at his office. He said that soon after the verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan, we have geared-up the social work regarding eunuchs in the province. He said that we are focusing on the rights of inheritance of eunuchs; they were deprived of such kind of rights due to some backward trends of the society.
It is pertinent to mention here that officials of Social welfare department had already approached the authorities of Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Authority (STEVTA) for provision of training to all eunuchs. Besides, they had written letters to Secretary Home and IG Sindh police for taking special measures for the security and safety of eunuchs community while they also approached to secretaries of education and health for giving admissions to eunuchs in all public educational institutes and for the provision of all health facilities to them on priority basis.
