EU lifts sanctions on Libyan banks

Published Updated

The European Union on Wednesday lifted the sanctions it had imposed on Libya's central bank and state-owned international lender, in a bid to help the North African country rebuild following the ouster of leader Mummar Qadhafi. The EU had frozen all funds and assets that the Central Bank of Libya and the Libyan Arab Foreign Bank was holding in the bloc in March, as part of sanctions applied on Qadhafi's regime.
