A number of sector-specific agreements between Pakistan and Poland are in the pipeline, which would give boost to trade between the two countries in the near future. The Ambassador of Poland in Pakistan, Dr Andrzej Ananicz, stated this in a meeting at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Wednesday. Consul General of Poland in Lahore Shahbaz A Khan was also present on the occasion.
The Ambassador said that Poland government is interested in further expanding economic relations with Pakistan in all fields, including power generation through coal, of which this country has very huge reserves. He said that Pakistan and Poland need to work together in order to identify possible fields of co-operation and to provide proper information to business communities of both sides.
He, however, urged Pakistani businessmen to invest in new technologies to more efficiently exploit the country's resource potential and to enhance bilateral trade with Poland. He said though the volume of two-way trade between Pakistan and Poland has been improving every year and would hopefully touch new peak by the end of this year.
The Polish Ambassador said that it is the private sector which should convince the government and take a lead in evolving a well tailored methodology to improve the soft image of the country as the reluctance among the foreign buyers, particularly the businessmen from European Union, is the result of a number of incidents related to law and order in Pakistan in yesteryear.
He also promised that the Polish Embassy would do its best to meet such challenges and support any proposals and ideas which would help in achieving common goals. LCCI Vice President Saeeda Nazar said that the current level of trade between Pakistan and Poland needs more concrete steps on both sides and foremost amongst them is the exchange of information.
She said that to cover up that information gap, it is necessary that the Chamber sof both countries should evolve a methodology to exchange trade-related information and send sector-specific delegations on reciprocal basis, besides arranging single-country exhibitions. She said that the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry was ready to arrange a catalogue show of Polish companies here at LCCI so that Pakistani businessmen could be able to have knowledge of Polish companies.
The LCCI Vice President said that economic ties between the two countries can also flourish through joint ventures. "Investment opportunities exist in Pakistan for exploring the local market of over 180 million people and adjoining Gulf, Central Asian and South Asian markets," she said.
The LCCI Vice President urged the Polish Ambassador to bring a delegation of Polish businessmen to Pakistan so that the Polish businessmen could have first-hand knowledge about Pakistan's economy. She said that there are a lot of opportunities in Pakistan and it was high time that the Polish businessmen came forward for availing these opportunities. "The exchange of business delegations could do a lot in improving the trade ties between Pakistan and Poland," she added.
