The Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority (PIDA) will utilise modern digital technology to sensitise the farmers about various water saving techniques and increase in the per acre yield. For this purpose, JICA has agreed to provide necessary support and technical assistance to the PIDA to augment the water saving drive through farmer organisations (FOs).
This was stated by JICA Advisor Kanamori while briefing the PIDA officials held in the PIDA head office. Various PIDA high officials attended the meeting. He emphasised that expert use of modern digital in agri sector was need of the hour. The FOs can play a great role in this drive by mobilising the farmers in their areas to learn efficient use of water. The meeting also reviewed SIAP project aiming at saving of irrigation water in detail. It was informed to the meeting that a documentary has been prepared to be shown to the farmers to sensitise them about various methods of agriculture.
PIDA was playing a great role in providing necessary support and assistance to the farming community through FOs in the province. Its role has strengthened the farmers' participation in decision making and this has resulted in giving confidence to them.
