Prime Minister, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has averred that conspiracies by certain elements against the democratic government are aimed at avoiding March 2012 Senate election. He was speaking at the marriage ceremony of daughter of former president Supreme Court Bar Association, Asma Jahangir, here on Sunday.
The PM said that memo-gate is a non-issue and giving undue importance to the non-issues has put the country's integrity at stake. Rejecting the idea of possibility of technocrat government, he said that there is no room for technocrats, caretakers or chair-takers in the system. Answering a query regarding any change in the democratic set-up, he said Pakistan People's Party fully believes in democracy and political forces never contemplate or support such anti-democracy ideas, he pointed.
Regarding the health of President Asif Ali Zardari, he said he is fast recuperating and would assume his office shortly. He also hinted at the possibility that the president might reach Pakistan well before the martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto on December 27, 2011.
Gilani, during the day, also met singer Abrar-ul-Haq along-with some other persons. He told the singer and social worker that democracy is well entrenched in the country, showing optimism that it would strengthen up with each passing day.
