Member Pakistan Bar Council Hamid Khan has vowed that lawyers will resist any military coup and would launch another movement. Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, he said lawyers are the protectors of constitution and law. He said an independent judiciary should give decision independently and the government should abide by them.
He said the bar associations should resolve their issues on their own and abstain from becoming the stooge of the governments. Responding to a question on memo scandal, Hamid Khan dispelled the impression that Supreme Court did not have the jurisdiction to adjudicate upon the issue. He was of the view that courts were fully empowered to take up such issues.
Answering to another question, he said president's physical and mental condition could be determined by a medical board constituted by the parliament. He further said that parliament had the power to impeach the President. Hamid Khan being head of lawyers' Professional Group has also announced Aslam Buttar as group's candidate for upcoming election of LHCBA. Aslam Buttar, Ahmad Awais, Maqsood Buttar and Amin Javed were also presenton the occasion. Aslam Buttar said lawyers had always played a key role of frontrunner against military dictatorship while the political parties sought lame excuses.
