Kenyan tea prices slide

The average price for top grade Kenyan tea fell to $2.88 per kg at this week's sale from $2.95 per kg previously, while the amount offered rose, brokers said on Wednesday. Mombasa-based Africa Tea Brokers (ATB) said 142,561 packages were offered for sale with 13.4 percent of it left unsold. Last week 132,541 packages were offered, with 14.8 percent left unsold.
Tea is a key export for the east African country, and is seen fetching a record 106 billion shillings ($1.2 billion) in 2011 up from 97 billion shillings last year.
