Sindh Ombudsman office has established Children Complaint Center, provincial Ombudsman Asad Ashraf Malik told business community here on Monday. Addressing members of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), he said that the provincial ombudsman have almost the same powers of federal ombudsman to provide relief to general pubic against excesses of various provincial government organisations and departments.
He said that the provincial Ombudsman office had a large numbers of complaints against corporal punishment. Action has been taken against the responsible teachers in such cases, he added. He advised people to contact provincial ombudsman in case they had any grievance or complaint against Sindh government departments for quick and inexpensive relief.
He informed that the organisation has established 11 offices in interior parts of Sindh to provide justice to people at their doorstep. To a question, he said the organisation has powers to take suo motu action but it did not has powers of issuing stay orders or initiating contempt proceeding for non-compliance of it orders. He said that he had moved a summery for delegation of these powers to the ombudsman for better implementation of its orders.
About applications against ombudsman's orders, he said that only Sindh Governor had power to entertain applications against his orders. To a question, he said that he had no power to entertain complaints against Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC). Although KESC has been privatised, yet the Federal Ombudsman has powers to entertain complaints against the utility, he added.
