Peshawar High Court has directed the government and Provincial Transport Authority (PTA) Government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to carry out extensive examination of all those public transport vehicles in which CNG kits are used to ensure that these are of international standards and not dangerous to the passengers.
It has also directed to ensure that passenger buses having 50 and more seats shall install four fire extinguishers, two in the front and two in the rare body while the medium and small size coaches and coasters shall install two fire extinguishers of imported quality to ensure safety of passengers.
It is further directed that the PTA and all authorities connected with the public transport fare shall ensure that no extra passenger is boarded on any vehicle beyond the authorised seating capacity and in this regard the PTA be provided many MMPIs (Motor Mobile Patrolling Inspectors) by the concerned department to ensure that no violation of the rules is made in any manner by anyone.
The Court also directed the AIG Traffic to personally launch the scheme with collaboration of the PTA so that the order of the Court is fully implemented. Any violation of this order would be taken very seriously and the defaulting officer/official would be prosecuted for contempt of court. The PTA is further directed to modify or issue a corrigendum notification with ten days, fixing the same rate of fare within the city area on 25 percent discount for CNG fixed vehicles.
