At a time when everything seems to be going haywire, British educational institutions of repute still look towards Pakistan as one of their important destinations to spread knowledge and develop leadership with an eye on future growth and development of the country.
The Karachi Education Initiative (KEI), a non-profit entity which has been set up by a group of prominent Pakistani business leaders and professionals to sponsor and establish Karachi School of Business & Leadership (KSBL), has entered into a comprehensive strategic collaboration agreement with the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge.
The University of Cambridge has a strong tradition of academic excellence and of producing leaders in both government and industry all over the globe. The dynamic Head of Marketing & Communications of KSBL, Humayun Javed Khan, told Business Recorder here on Friday that Cambridge has taken a lead strategic partnership role in the setting up of KSBL including the appointment of Dean, faculty recruitment and development, curriculum design and teaching methodology, technology support and development of research at KSBL.
The collaboration will deliver a functioning business school providing a full-time MBA program, a working professional MBA program, and Executive Development program. In a recent report, titled 'Globalisation of Management Education', the Association of Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) highlighted the importance of augmenting capabilities through strategic partnerships between the established and the upcoming business schools and referred to the involvement of Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, in the establishment of KSBL in Pakistan.
Cambridge has over 200,000 graduates and 2,000 faculty members. Over 75 Nobel prize winners have been associated with the University as faculty, researchers or students. The KEI Board of Directors includes big names like Hussain Dawood, Mueen Afzal, Atif R Bokahri, Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, Arif Habib, Hasan Irfan Khan, Dr Atta-ur-Rahman, Munawar Alam Siddiqui, Muhammad Ali Tabba, Asad Umar, Shabbar Zaidi, and Fr Robert Wheeler III, Dean of KSBL. He says: "Our philosophy revolves around developing a different kind of leader - one who is able to combine intelligence and knowledge with social responsibility to bring about tangible change."
Associate Dean, Steven Burton says that KSBL aims at: Admitting a highly diverse and talented student body on the basis of their abilities and leadership potential. Providing a transformational learning environment emphasising ethics and integrity.
Achieving international accreditation and best practice benchmarks which will merit its inclusion among the leading business schools of the world, and Providing state-of-the-art facilities at a dedicated campus. The KSBL MBA is a full-time 21-month program consists of eight, seven-week terms. There is one intake per year. The program would commence in September 2012 with a compulsory three-week Foundations term, and the students are expected to participate in a six- to eight-week internship after one year of studies. Humayun said that establishment of KSBL, a new world-class graduate business school in Pakistan, is a transformative event for the country. The world watches this nation every day, and the rise of a new management school in Karachi will be evidence of seriousness with which Pakistan looks to its future as a major economic force in the region, and the world.
