Lawyers hold rally against Nato strikes

Published Updated

Scores of lawyers of Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) and Supreme Court Bar Association on Monday held a protest rally against Nato's attack on check posts in Mohmand Agency. The lawyers were chanting slogans against the US government and demanded of the government to move the International Court of Justice against these attacks.
Unanimously carrying a resolution at the joint session of the SCBA and LHCBA, they demanded implementation in letter and spirit on decision taken by the Defence Committee of Cabinet, including the blocking of the Nato supply routes as well as the deadline to vacate Shamis Airbase. The bars demanded that drone attacks must be stopped once for all otherwise drones must be targeted.
Earlier speaking at the general house meeting, lawyers expressed their heartfelt sentiments over the infringements of Pakistan's sovereignty. Prominent among the speakers were SCBA Vice President Imrana Baloch, Secretary Aslam Zar, LHCBA President Asghar Gill, Secretary Arshad Malik Awan, Advocate Ahmed Awais, and Azam Nazir Tarar. Addressing the lawyers, Asghar Gill said the lawyers community would raise voice against violation of geographical boundaries of the country. He said all state institutions should fulfil their responsibility and act accordingly. Ahmed Awais said Pakistan was an independent country and protection of this independence was their first responsibility.
He said Nato attack on security check posts was a deliberate action. Awais expressed solidarity with the families of the deceased and injured soldiers. He demanded Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvaiz Kiani to retaliate in the same way. Vice President SCBA Imrana Baloch said Nato forces have violated international law and sovereignty of Pakistan by attacking Pakistani soldiers.
