Alpine skiing: Dominant Hirscher leads after first run

Published January 14, 2018 Updated January 14, 2018 12:16pm

WENGEN: Austria's Marcel Hirscher was in pole position Sunday to win his fifth consecutive World Cup race after clocking the fastest time in the first leg of the slalom in Wengen.

As he prepares to attempt to win a first Olympic title in Pyeongchang next month, Hirscher looked in dominant form timing 51.03sec, which was 0.35sec ahead of Andre Myhrer of Sweden with Norway's Henrik Kristoffersen third.

Hirscher, 28, has already won in Adelboden, Zagreb, Madonna di Campiglio and Val d'Isere this season.

He had to settle for silver in the slalom at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
