The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in collaboration with GIZ organised a two-day workshop to assess the training needs of the officers of Information Department and Local Government Department, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The two-day training workshop's basic aim was to equip officials of public sector institutes with modern communication tools and techniques to cope with emerging challenges in future.
Azmat Hanif Orakzai, Secretary Information, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was the chief guest on the occasion. Catherine Isabel Froehling, Programme Co-ordinator, GIZ Governance Programme, in her opening remarks welcomed the participants and highlighted the purpose of the workshop.
"Being the focus of our technical co-operation, the Capacity Building Training Programme is aimed at developing and adapting the professional skills of our partner institutions to better responds to today's public information and mass communication challenges", she maintained" She expressed the hope that the workshop could prove instrumental in the achievement of the overall strategic objectives of the Post-Crisis Needs Assessment (PCNA)".
While giving the keynote speech, the Secretary Information said that such kind of workshops will not only foster the professional skills of information officers but also enable them to meet the information challenges that have been emerged with the shift in the region's social and political dynamics during the past decade.
Omer Khan, Project Director, PDMA-PaRRSA briefed the participants on the Post Crisis Needs Assessment (PCNA) and highlighted the efforts taken by Federal and Provincial Governments in this regard so far. He appreciated the initiatives taken by GiZ and said that that the workshop will help in broadening the scope of the Capacity Building Programme intended for the Officers of the Information and Public Relations Department and Local Government and Rural Development Department. Furthermore, this Training Need Assessment is the first step in developing a comprehensive and concerted long-term capacity building programme for the Information Department, he concluded.
